Whether you&#039;re an expert or a novice, the Speedmaster&#039;s history is a legend worth knowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FROM THE TRACKS TO THE MOON<\/strong>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Born in 1957, the Speedmaster was initially designed as a racing chronograph. Its main characteristics were readability, robustness, and reliability, essential qualities for a watch intended for high-speed competition. But the Speedmaster&#039;s destiny changed radically in 1965, when NASA selected this model as the official watch for space missions. After subjecting several models to extreme tests (very high and very low temperatures, shock, vacuum, humidity, and corrosion), the <strong>NASA <\/strong>chose the Speedmaster 105.003, the only one to pass all the difficult resistance tests. From March 23, 1965, the<strong>Omega Speedmaster<\/strong> 105,003 was worn by astronauts <strong>Virgil Grissom<\/strong> and John Young during a space mission, becoming the official watch of U.S. space missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>APOLLO 11: THE LEGENDARY MOMENT<\/strong>                                                                                                                                                                                                          The pinnacle of the Speedmaster&#039;s history came with the Apollo 11 mission. On July 20, 1969, <strong>Buzz Aldrin<\/strong> He wore the Omega Speedmaster Professional as he became the second man to walk on the moon. This event cemented the Speedmaster as the first watch worn on the lunar surface, an indelible mark of its connection to the conquest of space. At that historic moment, Neil Armstrong, although also wearing a Speedmaster, left his watch in the lunar module, using it as a backup for the onboard clock that had stopped working. This made Aldrin the only astronaut to have his Speedmaster on the moon. Today, Armstrong and Young&#039;s watches are on display at the Smithsonian&#039;s National Museum of Air and Space.
