IN RAVELLO, THE POOL REOPENS: THE NEW CARUSO POOL CLUB IS A SUSPENSION IN TIME AMONG INFINITE HORIZONS, PRECIOUS SILENCE, AND MEDITERRANEAN RITUALS.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sun rises slowly over Ravello. The sky is clear and the sea seems to be asleep. At that hour, everything is silent. Only the wind in the pine trees, the sound of the sea, and the sigh of the water pouring over the edge of the pool, a new pool overlooking the void. They call it La Piscina. It's more than a place. It's an idea. A straight line between sky and sea, carved into the stone of the Hotel Caruso, high on the Amalfi Coast. Those who come here come from far away. Some seek rest. Others escape. Some just want to watch. There are no clubs like this in the world. Not in Ravello. Not here, where time moves more slowly. La Piscina opens its doors in April. There's no fanfare. The curve of the mountains descending to the sea. The design is new, but it respectfully embraces the old stone. The building dates back to the eleventh century. They left what was important: the vaulted ceilings, the low walls, the sun-worn majolica tiles. All around, everything is silent. People come, stretch out, breathe. There are cabanas as white as sheets hung out in the sun, freshly turned up. Inside, cold bottles, fresh fruit, soft shadows. They are reserved by couples who are not in a hurry, friends reuniting after months, families who speak little and understand each other with their eyes. There are only two cabanas, and that says a lot. Inside, you can even stay silent. Gaze at Scala from afar, the oldest village in the area, feel the lemon scent and flowers in your hair. Have lunch brought to you, fresh, in the sun. Eat slowly.
The pool isn't just water. It's a way of life. People get up early, before the sun warms up. They practice yoga on a stone terrace, gazing out to sea. Some run, in silence, along the narrow streets of Ravello, accompanied by a personal trainer who knows every step, every curve. There's no rush. Some take a boat and leave, to gaze at the caves. Someone else stays, watching the sky turn red. Then evening comes. The lights dim. A man talks about stars. He points to them, one by one. The others look up. Someone dives in. Bathing, at night, has a different flavor. The water is dark. The body moves more slowly. You feel everything. The heart, the skin,
the world. Some laugh. Some remain silent. Under the moon, everything is different. There's even a movie theater, up there. Outdoors. The wind in your hair. A blanket over your legs. Films talk about love, escape, and homecoming. Upon arrival, each guest receives a small gift. It costs nothing, but it's worth a lot. A bottle of lemon water. A lotion.
Sunny. A magazine to read slowly. A little game. Maybe a surprise. No one asks for anything. Everything is thought out so that nothing seems thought out. There's a table with a Monopoly, but it's special. He speaks Italian. The places are the places of Belmond<\/strong>For those who want to win, but not too much. There's also backgammon. A caress on the nape of the neck. The colors aren't random. Someone has chosen them carefully. Livio de Simone, from Naples, designed with his hands. His fabrics were alive. Here, his studio worked on the cushions, the ceramics, the umbrellas. They're not just beautiful. They're part of the place. The patterns are from the 1960s, but they don't look old. They're warm.
Orange, brown, cream. Contrasting with the blue of the water. With the white of the stone. With the green of the pine trees. Local artisans have restored what was there. They haven't added, but rather given it new life. The pool is new, but it has a memory.
And that, today, is rare. The food is just right. Uncomplicated. Not ostentatious. Armando Aristarco<\/strong>, the chef, is from here. His cuisine speaks Campanian. Simple. Pure. Whoever eats it feels it. Caruso Grill<\/strong> The Mediterranean Diet dominates. You eat pizza, pasta, vegetables. Homemade limoncello. And you even learn how to make them. In the kitchen, with your hands, you learn best. In the end, no one wants to leave. But you have to. That's how it's always been. You return home with your skin warmed by the sun, your heart full, and silence within. Those who have been here return changed. They've seen something. They've felt something. The Pool is not a place. It's a time. A pause. A parenthesis.
