Geothermal: the energy resource of the future

IN THE PANORAMA OF RENEWABLE ENERGY, GEOTHERMAL ENERGY STAND OUT AS ONE OF THE MOST SUSTAINABLE, RELIABLE AND INEXHAUSTIBLE SOURCES.

This extraordinary potential comes from the natural heat of the Earth, a resource that, if properly exploited, can guarantee clean and continuous energy, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and contributing significantly to the global energy transition. Geothermal energy uses the heat present in the Earth's subsoil to produce energy. This is done by drilling geothermal wells that extract hot fluids or steam from the depths of the Earth, which are then used to generate electricity or for the direct heating of buildings and infrastructure. The use of geothermal energy offers numerous environmental and economic advantages:

Sustainability – Geothermal energy is a renewable and inexhaustible source, since the earth’s heat regenerates naturally.
Reduction of CO2 emissions – Unlike fossil fuels, geothermal plants generate low greenhouse gas emissions.
Reliability and Continuity – Unlike solar and wind energy, geothermal energy is not dependent on weather conditions, ensuring constant production. Energy Independence – The development of geothermal energy reduces dependence on imported gas and oil, increasing national energy security. Multifunctional Use – In addition to electricity production, geothermal heat is used in agriculture (greenhouses), industry and urban heating.

Many countries have already understood the strategic value of geothermal energy and are investing in new technologies to increase its efficiency and diffusion. Iceland, the United States, Italy and the Philippines are among the world leaders in the geothermal sector, with large-scale plants that supply electricity to millions of people. Italy, in particular, boasts a long tradition in geothermal energy: the Tuscany region, with the area of Larderello, has been a pioneer in the use of this resource since 1904. Today our country continues to develop innovative plants, exploring new technologies such as binary cycle plants and micro geothermal power plants, which make it possible to use geothermal energy even in non-traditional contexts. In an era in which the fight against climate change is a global priority, geothermal energy represents a concrete solution for a cleaner, more efficient and independent energy future.
Investing in this resource means looking forward, with a vision oriented towards sustainability and the well-being of future generations.
